Questions and Answers
* We reserve the right to retain First Pick male and/or female puppies from our litters for the continuation of the bloodline*
* At what age do you allow your pups to leave? The day the puppy turns 8 weeks of age.
* How many litters do you breed each year? We plan our puppies only when we have the time, and dedication that is needed to raise them properly. We will produce a litter mainly for ourselves for protection, and the continuation of the bloodlines. We do not breed often and always have a long waiting list, often creating a waiting period of 6 to 12 months or longer. Establishing a relationship with us gains our trust that you will provide a lasting, permanent home to one of our loved puppies and gives insight onto which puppy might be the most suitable for your family and lifestyle.
*We like to speak with the potential future families of all of our puppies prior to accepting deposits!*
* What is your process for someone to reserve a puppy from you? Those placing a deposit will hold their position for one of our puppies for after they are born. If for whatever reason you decide to wait, your deposit will transfer to any litter.
When we have an expectant mother, we will post that we are expecting her litter on our "Available Puppies," and FB page. Our deposit is $400 which is deducted from the price of your puppy. It is non-refundable but transferable contingent upon availability. We will notify you as soon as the puppies are chosen, and note each puppy as "Sold" as the family makes their decision.
*NOTE-: If there are not enough specified puppies born per family, then those families will be next in line on our Waiting List for a future litter.
"What do I do while I'm waiting?"
Get prepared for your new addition:
* How does "Pick of The Litter" work? First Pick is determined by the order of those on our Waiting List. After each puppy from the litter is chosen or if a family decides to hold off on getting a puppy, then everyone will move up in position.
Our Male and Female puppies are $1,800. We do not price differently for specific coat patterns or colors.
In consideration for everyone waiting to choose their puppy, we ask you to please have your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice ready for after the families with first pick select their puppy.
*NOTE: We give the families with 1st pick male, and female up to the day the puppies turn 5 weeks old from time of birth to choose their puppy. We allow for two days for your decision after that family chooses their puppy, until we move to the next family on our list.
*Payments: Zelle, Postal Money Order (PMO), and Cash - For your ease of payment, we are using Zelle or Postal Money Order, which are very fast, simple, and secure ways to make your deposit.
(PayPal Is No Longer Optional).
Payment in full of purchase price due when the puppy reaches Seven (7) weeks old if using Zelle or PMO, to insure payment clears prior to shipping before transferring ownership. Payment in full due by Eight (8) weeks of age, payment by Cash when you are picking up your new puppy directly from us. We do not accept checks.
Shipping not included in sale price. No third party transactions.
We provide many pictures, and videos of our new litter on our Website, YouTube channel, and FB page throughout their growth. If there is a particular puppy that you would like to see extra pictures/videos of please, don't hesitate to ask!
* How do you raise your puppies? Can I come by and visit your facility and inspect your dogs? Well for starters, we do not have a facility, nor is this a regular job, this is our home... We are not a commercial breeder supplying pet stores or organizations with wire cage raised puppies to auction off to the highest bidder. Our pups are raised inside our home where they have human contact many hours out of each day. When they are old enough, we expose them to the various animals we have on our farm, friends, and family, different surfaces and noises, etc., and we begin their potty and leash training to help prepare them for becoming confident, and well-socialized lifelong companions, ready for their new loving homes. We welcome visits on weekends when we have available time, and only to those whom we have spoken to first. If by chance we have new puppies on the ground, visits are postponed until the pups reach an appropriate age; one to prevent stressing the new mom, and two; we have no control over where you may have been prior to coming here i.e. (dog parks, pet stores, rest areas, the vet or your neighbors dog), and we do not want our pups exposed to any pathogens before they have had a chance to develop a strong immune system. For these reasons, we provide weekly pictures, videos, and updates ONLINE when we have new puppies.
*Pet Quality: Means the puppy is to be spayed/neutered not for breeding purposes. Pet/Companion dog only.
A male dog can be neutered, and a female spayed any time after eight weeks of age. A few years ago, most veterinarians advised waiting until puberty hit at about six to nine months of age, and some still make that recommendation. Generally, a female dog will come into "heat" every 6 months, and last as long as 3 weeks. However, not all females are the same. Your veterinarian can advise what is best for your dog.
*Registration: The Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog is recognized by U.S.H.B.R. (United States Historical Bulldog Registry), W.W.K.C. (World Wide Kennel Club), A.R.F. (Animal Research Foundation), A.B.A. (American Bulldog Association), N.K.C. (National Kennel Club) and A.B.R.A. (American Bulldog Registry, and Archives).
* I know nothing about Pedigrees or even how to read one, why should I be interested in a pedigree? It's a very important and useful piece of paper. This is how we can see the purity in a dogs lineage, and also helps to predict a certain type of Alapaha in looks and by knowing temperaments, and health data attached to that pedigree. As a reputable breeder, we can go back and research certain things such as phenotype (what we see on the outside) and genotype (what is hidden on the inside). Breeders can see over the years what dog or line produces better offspring, and who does not. That pedigree is filled with rich history that can either help or hinder us but you need to know as much as possible about the individual dogs in that pedigree. To the pet owner, it's usually just a fancy piece of paper with names but to a concerned breeder, it's knowledge and a very powerful tool.
* Outcross: Outcrossing is defined as the mating of two dogs that are totally unrelated. There are some breeders who would define outcrossing as the breeding of two dogs with no common ancestors in a four to five generation pedigree. That definition seems reasonable because the genes affecting the resulting progeny are concentrated within those four to five generations. We will "outcross" only with an Old Southern White aka White English Bulldog (WEB), one of the main breeds that Lana Lou Lane used in establishing the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog, and the Old Southern Bulldog (OSB). Finding a breeder that breeds for the overall health and screens their animals prior to breeding for hereditary disorders, as well as being conscientious to maintain the traits characteristic to the breed (temperament, conformation, balance and structure and drive). Outcrossing, reduces but does not guarantee that a puppy will be born without genetic disorders.
* Temperament: Temperament is a function of genetics. It is inherited not developed. A dog's core temperament never changes. Some behaviors can be modified through training, but the temperament itself never changes. It's in their DNA. For example, a high energy dog is not going to learn to be a laid back low energy dog. But the dog can be taught to control his energy, to an extent. A dog with a rotten temperament will always be a dog with a rotten temperament no matter how wonderful the environment is. A dog with a sound, stable temperament will always be a sound, stable dog even in a miserable environment.
* Personality: Each dog has a personality, which is different than temperament. Personality is developed through interaction with other animals and primarily with people. A dog will not consider as a prey object, any living creature to which he is exposed to early as a puppy. Puppies who are raised in nurturing, enriched environments, tend to have well-developed personalities. Good early handling, socialization, and training will help develop desirable traits, but those traits have to be there. However, this does not change their temperament.
We begin handling our puppies from birth, rubbing their feet, ears, and tail, handling their mouths and turning them over as they mature. We start their socialization along with introducing them to our friends and family, the other animals here, different surfaces and sounds. We believe this is vital in developing each puppies trust, confidence, and personality, and should continue long after they leave us, and our home to be with their new families.
* Drive: Prey, Pack, and Play, etc...
Drive is an inherent, unconscious desire that pushes the dog into taking action in relation to something. All dogs have certain basic drives.
Rarely does one inborn trait exist without the influence of another alongside that behavior. There are several “drives” that can exist with a diversity of intensities.
* Soundness: The state of mental and physical health when all organs and faculties are complete and functioning normally, each in its rightful relation to the other. Having in good working order all the parts that are needed for that particular breed’s function. Soundness is totally breed-specific and related to breed type.
* Type: Breed Type in the parlance of dog fanciers refers to the qualities that define a dog breed, and separate it from other dog breeds. Breed type is outlined in the written standard for each breed, and is the basis of judging in conformation dog shows.
