Bringing home your new Alapaha puppy should be a very special time for everyone involved. This new member of your family can bring great joy into your life, and become your best friend and your protector. They are adorable, soft, affectionate, and cuddly. Lets not forget that "puppy breath" for those of us who love that sort of thing, ourselves included! It can be quite entertaining watching them as they play and pounce on imaginary objects while exploring the world around them. Everything is a new adventure and a valuable learning experience all at the same time. However, this could become very stressful for you and your new addition rather quickly, if the appropriate steps are not taken to develop a routine being consistent, and setting boundaries right from the start. This is fundamental in helping your puppy adjust more smoothly into their new surroundings and family, while also instilling appropriate behavior as they mature.

From our experience, taking your puppy outdoors to potty before playing loose in the house works best. Take them outside every 15 minutes to relieve themselves even if they don't act like they need to go. We have found that this routine is most effective in preventing unwanted accidents in your home aside from doing crate training.

We suggest always taking your fur baby outside preferably to the same area. Usually, the smell of their waste will encourage them to go potty in the same spot.
When you are unable to keep an eye on them, put your puppy back into the crate for their safety, no longer than two hours at a time throughout the day at this stage. Your puppy will have to go to the bathroom directly after waking up, after heavy play, and approximately 25 - 30 minutes after eating or drinking. Provide
a variety of safe toys around to keep your new addition  entertained, and distracted from chewing anything inappropriate.

Most likely, your new fur baby will eventually have an accident on the floor. You should never spank them or rub their nose in it. They can not help it. The muscles needed to control their bowel/bladder movements will develop as they mature.

Thank you for taking the time to read over this.
